Who Are You Bravely Becoming?

Who do you want to be when you grow up? Not what, but who? I get such a kick out of asking 50-somethings that question. When we were young, those in their 50s seemed old and at death's doorstep. Now that we are living longer, that doorstep has moved farther down the street, making the question even more important. Who are you becoming?

Everything you've done to date has been preparing you for this moment in your life. You have accumulated skills, expertise, knowledge, and preferences. You have made decisions that led you here. You are no longer "finding" yourself. You are recognizing who you have become!

So, who do you think you are? That sentence wasn't meant to be spoken with your mother’s voice (Who do you think you are?) but instead with wonder. Who are you? Mid-life is a great time to reflect on your present and past. It's like putting yourself into context. We are who we are thanks to what did and didn't work in our lives. We carry with us several identities now, thanks to all of it. But oftentimes, those identities accumulate without us acknowledging them. List them, speak them!

What is not on that list of identities that you wish was? This is your chance to dream a little, with a dash of hope thrown in. You can still add to the list as long as you don’t hold yourself back or let your current situation drive the narrative.

I know these are hard questions to answer, ranking up there with the meaning of life one. A big difference, though, is that understanding who you are becoming is within your control. You get to pick the destination. You get to choose the path you walk. And you get to set the parameters of your journey.

Friends, you are becoming who you were meant to be. Mid-life brings a lot of change seemingly all at once. If this conversation has you overwhelmed, it’s a great time to ask for some help. Schedule a Discovery Call today and let me guide you to bravely become YOU!
